tph history
Feferi's first memories of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico involve hallucinations and shenanigans. Shortly after she arrived, she-- like her friends who were there before her-- were hit with a contagious form of magic which spurred them to go on their "spirit journey" through the desert. The trip was precluded by Rose removing Feferi's tracking chip in a brief yet painful process, then using her blood as warpaint. They proceeded to trek through the deserts of New Mexico and Arizona until they reached Las Vegas where they stayed for a while. Terezi racked up quite a fortune playing in the casinos (we don't ask how she managed to get them to let her play) while Feferi proceeded to inform her friends that everyone had to die, and made herself a bra out of seashell pasties. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas. They continued on to the coast of California, then headed north, but not without Feferi nearly drowning Sollux when going for a swim. Once the magic wore off? Well, everyone felt pretty silly and just quietly headed home.
Spending the next few weeks acclimating to the desert and to Earth in general, Feferi was hit with a curse around Valentine's Day that turned her into a boy. She didn't really care all that much, but it did provide a nice springboard for the conversation in which she asked Sollux to be her matesprit, so some good did actually come of it. Much smooching ensued. (Later they would watch The Little Mermaid together and do basically the same thing. What do you expect two bored teenagers in the desert to do, really?)
Early March was a time of discovery for the young trolls of Truth or Consequences. In an interesting turn of events, they discovered that maple syrup held many properties that would simulate the effects of sopor, and much through accident. Many pancakes were eaten that day, and though it proved to be a useful discovery in the long run, it was yet another thing to add to the "list of things we don't talk about ever again".
The lighthearted mishaps of her first two months in Truth or Consequences came to an end around the middle of March, when a world event caused the sun to stay out for a full 72 hour period. Not only did this cause searing temperatures across the US, but it also came coupled with a loss of powers for some of her friends-- Sollux included, who fell out of the sky en route to Seattle and wound up having to stay there to recover. Naturally, Feferi fretted, though he had Rose and Kanaya to look out for him. She made her way to Seattle to put in what she could towards care, making sure to bring the tennis balls she'd fashioned as horn guards, for the sake of his pillows. Girl's got priorities, and they involve protecting the innocent pillows her matesprit comes into contact with.
After Sollux's recovery, she and most of her friends got caught up in yet another illusion, hallucinating that they were humans in 1950s suburbia, complete with every '50s movie trope you can think of. It wasn't particularly eventful for Feferi during the experience, but afterwards, she was glad to have had the chance to experience being human. It wasn't every day that a troll got to do something like that, and she took it as a blessing to be able to relate a little better to her human friends.
Sometime in early April, Truthicon came to Truth or Consequences, a small, poorly-advertised con who gained popularity mostly by word of mouth. Feferi was excited to attend a panel about aliens, if only to point out to her friends how everything being said was wrong (being a resident alien herself and all). Though they were allowed to stay, there was geerally quite a bit of resentment towards the trolls, being visibly Imports with their horns and skin, but Feferi endeavored to have fun. Following the con, a number of rumors about the imports around her started coming true, though it did not actually affect her.
To kick off May, Feferi tagged along with Sollux and a few others on a highly unsuccessful raid on the Capekiller HQ. They were captured and had DNA taken. (Though Feferi did get to meet Batman.) To no one's surprise, Feferi had quite the time of trying to cheer Sollux up after that. Around the same time, Eridan and Vriska showed up. Quite stressful for wayward trollchildren, to be sure. The Capekillers would pull another stunt, and there would later be a strike on Truth or Consequences, in which Feferi was made to stay in the basement to keep safe. Fire and fish trolls just don't mix.
Not before she had the pleasure of experiencing an alternate future. Like she so often does, the Scarlet Witch flipped out and reality went haywire, causing the transports to live out an alternate timeline for about seven years. During that time, transports were either shuffled into highly-controlled areas, or went on the run. The trolls chose to go on the run. Alongside Kanaya, Feferi would work as their team's medic. She would grow closed with a doomed version of Dave Strider, who taught her street smarts in return for helping him relax a little, and they would eventually form a moirallegiance together. Early in the timeline, she also managed to find and hatch a dragon egg, though the vain, self-interested animal left her shortly after hatching to have Eridan as his rider, mostly because Eridan had more bling. (To this day, Feferi makes sure to keep some with her, in case she ever meets her baby again.)
Feferi never managed to grow very tall, and besides traveling with the caravan, she kept her own tent full of whatever pillows and cloth she could scavenge.
The alternate timeline for the trolls would culiminate in a number of ways, but for Feferi, this meant being captured by bounty hunters and used as a lure for Sollux. This would have been their end if her dear, sweet kismesis, one Eridan Ampora, hadn't ridden in on a white dragon and saved them all. They wouldn't have much time to react to the rescue, though, as reality righted itself and they were pulled back in time.
(More on the Pyrrhic Victory plot)
After returning to their proper timeline, a lot of things were out of whack for the once again young trolls. Gamzee showed up, and Feferi took on the task of baking him maple syrup treats to keep him calm*. Nobody else knew what to do with him, but he took up residence in the basement and she would bring him pancakes and waffles and snacks with maple baked in, and everything was sort of okay but still sort of not.
Towards the end of June, Feferi became the victim of a boating accident. While swimming in the nearby reservoir, she managed to get herself hit in the head with a boat while surfacing and had to be rescued by Sollux when she didn't show up back home again after a day or so. She spent the next few weeks recovering, just in time for something else to crop up in New York City.
